Listen in to learn more:

  • [09:30] Dopamine, which is low in ADHD brains, is tied to estrogen, so when estrogen levels drop, dopamine levels drop - women with ADHD might notice that their cycle is very linked to their symptoms

  • [21:30] Folks who have ADHD have lower levels of interoceptive awareness - also known as the ability to pick up on body cues, including things such as hunger and needing to go to the bathroom

  • [35:25] Protein can be something a lot of people with ADHD struggle to get adequate amounts of; carbs are a source of dopamine, so people with ADHD enjoy carbohydrates, leading to their “preferred” foods being more in line with carbs

Becca King is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist from Charlotte, North Carolina. As an adult with ADHD, who struggled for years with disordered eating, Becca is passionate about helping other adults with ADHD who struggle with binge eating, chronic dieting, and body image issues find food freedom and improve their self-esteem. She uses the Principles of Intuitive Eating and a weight-inclusive approach to nutrition for ADHD in her virtual practice.
